Michael O'Leary, MA, IMFT-S

My name is Mike O’Leary, and I hope to be a help and a support on your path toward growth, healing, and connection. I have been counseling professionally for 7 years, and have over 10 years experience in the human services field working with individuals, couples, and families of all ages, races, and backgrounds. One of my strongest therapeutic assets is the sincere passion and interest I have for my clients and their unique stories. Through meeting you exactly where you are, I can help you pinpoint problem areas, find and aim for your goals, and help to enhance your quality of life. In addition to talk therapy, I use numerous forms of communication and expression, including music, art, guided meditation, and play, to help tailor the therapeutic process for my client(s).

I take special interest in anxiety issues, couples work, family therapy, child and adolescent counseling, PTSD and trauma recovery, depression, and attachment issues.

I received my Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology/Marriage and Family Therapy from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA and I am an Independent Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (IMFT) in the state of Ohio. I have also received training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is effective in the treatment of trauma recovery.

Connective Counseling was created with the hope of serving the greater Columbus area and the outlying communities of Franklin County, developing innovative and effective treatments for those seeking connection and wellness in their lives. I named my practice “Connective Counseling” because I believe that all of us seek connection and intimacy in one way or another, be it with our loved ones, our dreams and aspirations, our Higher Powers, even our own selves. Problems arise when these connections are blocked, either by genetic, traumatic, experiential, or self-inflicted barriers, and we search for answers in negative, unhealthy, and sometimes destructive, thoughts and behaviors.

When we finally recognize and acknowledge these disconnections, a therapist can provide objective guidance and insight, help find the small threads that still connect us to our goals, and assist us in creating bridges out of these threads that help us continue on life’s path.
